How does your annual gift positively impact kids?

Our Boys Club is the 17th oldest nationwide Boys & Girls Club, was founded in 1891, adding girls to the Club in 1991. We provide a caring, nurturing, adult-supervised environment for young people from ages six to 18.  We have a respected history of providing top-quality services and programs for our youth.

Charitable funds that we raise through our annual campaign and special events go straight to our programs and directly impact the youth at our Club.  Each dollar stays in our community!  We appreciate every dollar we raise and are confident that your charitable investments will more than pay off, both now and in the future.

Every year, we serve more than 2500 kids, or 24% of the 10,651 youth enrolled in the New Britain public school system. The unique and vital programs offered by our Club enhance the quality of life for youth and prepares them for responsible citizenship.  Our doors are open for 1,967 hours each year!  We do all this, plus more, on a budget of slightly more than $1 million.

Your contribution touches the lives and impacts the future of thousands of kids.  Your money is not spent frivolously; every dollar is closely managed and leveraged in such a way that we can provide high quality programs and still provide scholarships to those many local families who simply cannot afford to pay.

Regardless of a family’s financial status, we welcome every child and provide the same significant opportunities for young people by offering programs that focus on intellectual, personal and social growth, and physical well being in a caring and safe place. We have an outstanding, dedicated, and professional staff, and a host of committed volunteers who mentor boys and girls.

Our Club is the only organization in New Britain providing an open door/drop in environment for youth ages six to 18.  A comprehensive youth development strategy underlies each of our programs, fostering a sense of belonging, competence, usefulness and influence that build self-confidence and self-esteem for every child and teen.   Here is where we spend your charitable dollars:

  • We serve only children.   This requires a dedicated professional staff.

  • We offer a year-round safe and nurturing environment for children, with an “open-door” policy.

  • Our Club offers a nationally accredited and affordable pre-school program.

  • Your dollars provide structure, guidance, and compassion in young lives, often unavailable in other settings.

  • Through peer- mentoring, we model positive behavior, build self respect, and respect for others. The programs are outcome based, with measurable impacts and focus on the whole child.

  • Develop strong leadership attributes in children and youth.

  • We provide innovative activities: VIP, Smart Moves, and educational enrichment programs.

  • We partner with New Britain schools providing a “drop-off” space when schools are not in session and are closed for storms and emergencies.

Examples of our Impact and Service to our Community…Your Dollars at Work

  • We cannot remember when a single one of our teen members did not graduate from high school.

  • 100% of the public schools in New Britain—that’s 16 out of 16 schools—send their students to our Club when school is out!

  • Parents and family members of our members frequently tell us that without our Club, they’re little ones would face greater risks and would not be so well adjusted.

  • Your dollars help us pay for SMART Girls (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training), a nationally acclaimed comprehensive prevention program helping young people resist alcohol, tobacco and drug use, as well as premature sexual activity and criminal behavior.

  • 330 streets in New Britain—or 49% of all residential roads—have members residing on them.  That’s nearly half of New Britain, geographically, being impacted by our work and your charitable investment!

  • Your dollars help us run our Keystone Club program, a character and leadership club for teens ages 14 to 18.  These teens develop leaders, explore careers and educational options, and volunteer in making New Britain a better place to live and work.  This is a collaborative program with New Britain High School.

  • 270 kids ages 12 to 18, with a weekly attendance of 50, participate in Project V.I.P. Project VIP, standing for Vision, Initiative, Perspective, is open from 5 pm to 8 pm on Saturday nights—those peak hours where most risky behavior occurs.  Our mission is to protect and promote pre-teens and teens, build their personal assets, and help them become caring, competent adults.  Your dollars helps us provide this program!

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your charitable contributions and for your positive commitment toward the children, youth, and teens in our community.  We understand that you have many philanthropic choices and we appreciate the fact that you have decide that our Club is worthy of your support.  Please contact us at 860.229.2865 if we can be of assistance.  And, thank you once again for your investment!
